Kangaree 2018

Kangaree

By Joey Scout Sophia Gigliotti

I finally got to go to Kangaree as I was too young when it was on before! The bus to Kangaree was awesome, we played rock paper scissors and I spy. I sat next to Milly and Jacob. When we got to Kangaree the first thing we did was make our beds ready for that night.

We did loads of cool stuff like going to the wombat hole, doing adventure land, tried cubbing, rope courses, and kayaking. There was lots of food like sandwiches, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, rice bubbles, cornflakes , pancakes, porridge and chicken nuggets. We slept in a massive shed. The one I slept in was close to the kitchen. When it was raining we were all in our shed. I put my fluffy blanket under my sleeping bag on the stretcher to make it warmer that night. It was freezing!

I loved the bus ride home because I was sitting near Lily and Milly.

Kangaree is Awesome!

A Leader Perspective

Well, Kangaree 2018 is done and dusted! Firstly, thanks for some amazing Melbourne weather, as we played through northerly winds and high temperatures through to torrential downpours and storm fronts… certainly kept us on our toes!

My first big thanks goes to the amazing Sherbrooke Forest District Leadership team, headed up magnificently by Jacqui Day (Platypus) as we worked together to provide some wonderful memories for our Joey Scouts. I’d also like to thank Jenna Perry (Emu) for being our 1st Emerald Mob’s back up singer and dancer through all our adventures.

Secondly, I’d like to acknowledge the myriad of sensational people behind the scenes who have worked tireless to create and support this event… not only through the weekend, but before it began and the remarkable cleanup that occurs after we’ve gone.

Thirdly, I’d also like to acknowledge the parents and families who have entrusted us with your precious cargo to be on this adventure for a whole weekend…it’s your encouragement and support that allows us to offer the opportunities that we do.

Finally, it never ceases to amaze me how resilient, engaged and persistent our Joey Scouts can be, even through some trying conditions. All our Joey Scouts brought joy and happiness to me throughout the weekend, as I saw them take on experiences and challenges too. Well done to you… may you sleep comfortably and well tonight, in your own beds!

YIS, Quokka.
