Patrol Camping
Everyone needs a starting point with Patrol Camping. Some of us are old hands and can plan, build and execute a successful camp in our sleep. Others of us are new to the game and feeling a little overwhelmed and there are plenty of us in between.
I wrote the guide attached to this article to help our youth with patrol camping in general and Strabroke Cup in particular. Each year as an assessor I notice more and more patrols with the guide in their log book.
Remember that this is only a guide, a starting point if you like. Where you take it from here is up to you.
In our troop the majority of our camps are patrol camps with the patrols camping seperately (physically near each other) with their own equipment and menu. The amount of leader help in each camp varies depending on the PL - some of them don't need a lot of help and some need some strong guidance. This puts the youth members in good stead for Stradbroke, supervised and unsupervised journeys, etc. I strongly encourage other leaders to follow this path.
